Moving on

We have moved from a house in a village, to a flat in the city.

Today I counted up all the places we have called home in our 29+ years of marriage and this is our 19th move, (I could be off by one or two). As with every move, there are pros and cons. The challenge, (besides the dreaded job of packing) is making a house into a home.

What  I will miss

My branch, decorated here for Christmas 2014
November 2013 - While out for a walk (yes I was on a quest)
 I found the perfect branch.
At first I just propped it up in a corner and decorated it for
our 1st Thanksgiving in Croatia.
As renters and on a tight budget, we try to work with what we have (and try not to add holes to the walls). The large beige, L shaped living/dinning area had one wall painted green - with two nails in the right place. Worthy of a Pinterest? maybe not, but I think it added warmth and character, loved changing the decor seasonally, and it was a conversation starter.

What I will not miss

Roosters, (yes with an S).
FACT: Roosters crow all the time. The connection with the sun coming up is a misconception. “They might, on occasion, crow right at dawn. But it’s just a coincidence,” Pete Alcorn (TransitionsAbroad.com) says. “Roosters crow whenever they feel like it: morning, noon and night, not to mention afternoon, evening and the parts of the day that don’t have names.”
Roosters crow because they hear other roosters crowing, to show that a certain place in the barnyard is their turf, to try and assert their authority over another rooster, or even to gloat when a hen cackles after laying an egg...

Not that I needed to look this fact up, I know from everyday experience... roosters crow all the time! In this neighborhood, we were just about the only house without roosters and chickens, although quite a few hung out in our front yard and under my window.

What I will miss

gardening
"Give a gardener no more space than a front stoop, and what will appear there is a flowerpot." - Burpee
"Gardening is the art that uses flowers and plants as paint,
and the soil and sky as canvas. " -  Elizabeth Murray
my garden patch - Summer 2014
“Yes, I'd love to have a garden of my own--spacious, and full of everything that is fragrant and flowering. But if I don't succeed, never mind--I've still got the dream.” ― Ruskin Bond

What Tom will not miss

No caption needed!
I love our new flat, it is modern, only two years old and from the balcony I can see the mountains to the right and city skyline to the left (we are on the 6th floor - really the 7th - bc here ground is our 1st and 2 is their 1st). Love the area - closer to the church, loncareva kuca crkva  - the new possibilities, and looking forward to the challenges of making this one a home too.

Blessed,
Christine
